La Provence à vélo

BETWEEN SAINT-RÉMY-DE-PROVENCE AND SAINT-ETIENNE-DU-GRÈS, THE COUNTRYSIDE OF ALPILLES

In the Alpilles, it climbs... watch out for your calves! This route between Saint-Etienne-du-Grès and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, however, has the advantage of being flat for 10 kilometers on a secure greenway devoid of motor vehicles. Rural landscapes, fields, mas (traditional Provençal farmhouses), orchards, all unveil to reveal the image of an agricultural countryside with bucolic accents. With just a few pedal strokes, Saint-Rémy is at the end of the handlebars. A stopover in the capital of the Alpilles is a must!

THE CALAVON CYCLE ROUTE, A CROSSING OF THE LUBERON

Of course, you are not obliged to take it in its entirety... 45 km, after all! On the route of a former railway line, from Cavaillon to Saint-Martin de Castillon, welcome to the heart of the Luberon. On the agenda of this route reserved for bicycles and pedestrians: the agricultural plains of Robion, Coustellet, and Les Beaumettes, the former Goult-Lumières station, the perched villages that can be seen when you look up. But also the Roman bridge at Bonnieux (a must-see spot that deserves a stop) and Apt, which overlooks the cycle route for a unique view of the capital of the Luberon. Between Saignon and Saint-Martin de Castillon, closer to the bed of the Calavon, there is a wilder and more hilly Luberon.

THE VIA VENAISSIA, IN THE PLAINS OF COMTAT VENAISSIN

From Orange to Velleron, in a protected site, you cycle among market gardening lands and vineyards for a rural ride punctuated by unexpected views of Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail. You pass through Jonquières and Sarrians before a stop at the former Loriol-Aubignan station. There, a bistro awaits you for a refreshing break. You continue on to Carpentras before catching sight of Pernes-les-Fontaines and its 41... fountains! The medieval town also has its former station, which has also become a bistro. Velleron and its agricultural plains are then not far away.

THE VIARHÔNA, ALONG THE RHÔNE

It's nicknamed the bicycle highway. And for good reason, the ViaRhôna connects Lake Geneva to the shores of the Mediterranean over 817 km, with the Rhône as the guiding river. A part of it is located in southern Drôme between Valence, Montélimar, then heading through upper Vaucluse (Lapalud) to Avignon. The fortress of Mornas is on the route, as is the village of Caderousse, its banks, and its dike, the Isle of l'Oiselay in Sorgues with its wonderful fauna and flora. An exceptional ecosystem to discover with the family since the island is dotted with numerous explanatory panels. A few more efforts before arriving at the gates of Avignon.

IN NYONS AND BUIS-LES-BARONNIES, ON THE SADDLE IN THE DRÔME PROVENÇALE

The roads of the Drôme Provençale delight experienced cyclists. But beware, the routes are particularly challenging here! The Drôme attractiveness agency, for example, lists 6 itineraries in the Nyons area and 3 in the Buis les Baronnies area. You can create your own ride taking into account certain difficulties.
